Cricket's not as big as religion in India, it's bigger. And the Mecca of the great game is Mumbai, the financial capital of the nation and home to millions.
From college students to corporates to street kids, thousands of "Mumbaikars" (Mumbai residents) live out their dream of playing for the country on one of the three most popular "maidans" (recreation grounds) in the south of the great city. These maidans have seen the first steps in the stellar careers of cricketing gods, Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar.
On Oval Maidan overlooked by the grandiose Mumbai University dozens of overlapping pitches often make it difficult to determine where one game begins and another ends. All the photos in this book were taken on one sizzling summer's eve in March, 2011.
